The Homesteading Circle
Coming Full Circle: Why I Created the Homesteading Circle
There are moments in life when you look back and realize that every season, every lesson, and every experience has quietly been leading you toward something bigger.
For as long as I can remember, I’ve loved learning. Whether it was gardening, preserving food, baking sourdough, fermenting vegetables, growing herbs, caring for animals, or simply finding slower, more intentional ways to live, I’ve always been the person asking questions, trying something new, and then eagerly sharing what I’ve learned with others.
Teaching has never been just about passing along information. It’s always been about creating connection.
Over the years, I’ve taught classes, hosted gatherings, welcomed people onto the farm, and watched complete strangers leave as friends. Those moments have reminded me that we aren’t just looking for another hobby—we’re looking for community. We’re looking for people who understand the joy of harvesting the first tomato of the season, the satisfaction of baking bread from scratch, the comfort of a warm cup of herbal tea, and the peace that comes from spending time outdoors.
I’ve come to believe that homesteading isn’t about owning acres of land or doing everything yourself. It’s about learning to care—for ourselves, for our families, for our neighbors, and for the land that nourishes us. It’s about understanding the rhythms of the seasons, appreciating where our food comes from, and discovering that even small, intentional changes can create a richer, more grounded life.
That belief is what inspired me to create the Homesteading Circle at Five Birds Farm.
This isn’t simply a series of classes. It’s a place where women can gather month after month to learn practical skills, ask questions, share ideas, encourage one another, and grow together. Each gathering builds on the last, creating a community where everyone—whether you’re just planting your first herb pot or already tending a flourishing garden—is welcome.
Throughout our time together, we’ll explore seasonal gardening, preserving the harvest, sourdough baking, herbal wellness, fermentation, crafting, planning for the seasons ahead, and so much more. But beyond the skills themselves, my hope is that you’ll leave each gathering feeling inspired, capable, and connected.
The world moves incredibly fast. We spend so much of our lives rushing from one obligation to the next that we often forget how healing it can be to slow down. To make something with our hands. To gather around a table. To learn from one another. To celebrate the simple beauty of the changing seasons.
That is the heart of the Homesteading Circle.
My hope is that this becomes more than a monthly gathering. I hope it becomes a place where friendships are formed, confidence is built, traditions are shared, and knowledge is passed from one generation to the next. A place where women feel supported, encouraged, and inspired to create lives that are rooted in simplicity, abundance, and intention.
If you’ve been longing for a slower pace, a deeper connection to nature, or a community of women who believe that learning together makes life richer, I’d love to welcome you.
This feels like the beginning of something special, and I can’t wait to grow alongside all of you.
